Front brake master cylinder

Post by DragonRider » Thu Jun 02, 2011 7:16 pm

The stock master cyclinder mounted on handlebars is made of plastic, and in the Florida sun tends to last only a few years before it needs to be replaced. Can I replace the entire master cyclinder with a different model? I was looking at an after market one for H/D FL with dual front brakes.
Since all the master cylinder does is send fluid under pressure to the calipers I dont see why I cant just swap them out. Has anyone done this?

There are replacement aftermarket one-piece master cylinders available that are metal, including the reservoir.

I know one guy who found a chromed master cylinder for $99 on eBay:

I don't see it on eBay now, but I know they're still around. He said it worked great.

There are universal replacements available now, like this one - it looks to be the same as that chromed one, but painted instead of chromed.
