Found Walmart had one in stock for $50.00. I hope it lasts at least 2 years.

Most bike batteries last about year to year and a half. I tend to buy mine from a local store that sells (and installs) only batteries. got one about six months ago for $39.99 and its a gel battery (no maintance at all).

Mine usually last 3 or maybe 4 years with no issue or longer...

I used to get one or two years out of my NAPA batteries - ever since I got a Battery Tender Jr. and hook it up to it regularly, that stopped - I'm now on year three with the NAPA battery and Battery Tender, and the battery runs/starts still like brand new.

when you say that you hook your battery up to a battery tender regularly, how often does that acutally mean? weekly? monthly? what does a battery tender do? i understand that its a charger, but doesnt a constant charge kill a battery that is sitting idle?
thanks!

Pretty much every time I park my bike, the battery tender goes on it. The battery tender is not a constant charger, it's not even a trickle charger. It is an intelligent charger designed to keep a battery "topped up." Batteries lose power over time, so when the tender sees the voltage drop below a certain amount, it will "top it up." After that, it just monitors the battery's condition, and waits until the next time it needs to be topped up again. Lead-acid batteries like this, and it makes them last a long time.

Yeah, the Battery Tender Jr. - I have two of them, I've given 2-3 away for contest prizes as well.

We have a retailer here in Oregon called "Batteries+Plus" and they have batteries for EVERYTHING! Although the GL1100 is very new to me, I have 2 Harleys, a '70 and an '82, both of which are running sealed, spill proof motorcycle batteries from this vender. I too have a battery tender on each and the battery in the '70 is on the start of it's 5th year and turns the 105 cubic inch motor over as well as the day I put it in new! I just looked it up in my maintenance file and I paid $39.99 for that particular battery and it was installed 07/11/2007.

Also, if they do not have the particular battery in stock, they can get the battery you need in a day or two. They also are dealing in L.E.D. bulbs now.

Would recommend a gel type battery. They don't require any maintenance and don't need vent hoses or cause corrosion from the vents.

definitely go to "batteries plus". i bought an "X2-18L" brand name "extreme" and it spins my '82 like crazy! i bought it in june of 2010 and paid about $130.00...expensive...but lots of peace of mind. came with a 1 year warranty! i also use a small charger from Wal-Mart (about $20.00) to maintain it. it is automatic, and switches itself over to a "maintenance" mode when the battery is charged. i just throw it on from time to time...whenever i think about it. have a battery tender too, and think they work about the same. unless you ride the bike every day, it's a good idea to have some kind of maintenance system set up for the battery.

Update to Batteries+ -Just priced a battery for my bike (GL1100), and it is $130.00 for maintanence free. Not the best in town. I'm looking for a good replacement but not at that price....

I bought a Walmart battery, and keep it on the Battery Tender Jr. that Wing Admin linked. I guarantee if you maintain it this way and keep the fluid level exact, your battery will last for at least five years. I've been doing it this way for many years, and it works well. Don't go cheap (i.e. Harbor Freight) with the tender.

I just replaced my battery in my GL1100, Probably didn't need to as it sill held a charge no problem and had no problem cranking it over. That battery was only the 2nd one in the bike an was installed in 1996. I replaced it with a Fleet Farm RoadRunner battery. We've been using them in all of our bikes and lawnmower for years and never had a problem. About $60-$70 for a GL1100 battery
