1982 GL1100 Speedometer problem

Post by DragonRider » Fri Jun 03, 2011 5:34 pm

I own an 1982 GL1100 aspencade and have been having speedo problems for some time now. When unit starts to make noise and act eratic I take it apart and lube it. When the needle falls off I reattach it.
Reciently I replaced the wheel sending unit and the cable, and I want to replace the speedo itself.
OKAY big question; what is the speedometer's ratio? I have found cable driven speedo's with 1:1 , 2:1 and 2240:60 ratio's but I need to know what the factory one was first...
Also I have thought about upgrading to a digital unit that is able to be set for the bike, has anyone done this?
