Funny or Stupid?

Post by DragonRider » Sun Jun 05, 2011 7:23 am

OK; Maybe I am an idiot. I rode my 1983 GL1100 Aspencade down to local Honda dealer to get prices on parts I need to rebuild front forks on my wifes '82 GL1100 Aspencade.
No sooned did I shut off bike then here is a dealer looking over my bike and asking me "when are you going to trade up and buy a new 1800".
Now I ask him "how much can I get for my bike on trade"? and without even stopping to think he says "about $2000.00". So I reply "you did say $20,000.00 right?
Now my school of thought is a car thats almost 30 yrs old is worth more than it was when it was new (if its in the same condition as it was when it was new) and the fact that this guy was by my side before I even got off the seat.

Had I rode into the same dealership on say a Harley that dealer would most likely have waited until I got inside and started looking a other bikes.
You always see old used Harleys for sale at Honda Dealers but its rare to find an older Goldwing.

It's worth market value. If he offers a trade-in value of $2000 as part of the deal for the 1800 he still figures to come out ahead.

If someone offered me 5 grand for my 81 I'd still have to think about it... these bikes are gem's especially when you have it operating properly..All I do is ride it these day's because everything has been repaired proper, I did all the work myself, got a lot of great information on this site that helped ..And that's what makes my bike so special to me.. How many of those guy's with the 1800's wish they still had their 1100...

The salesman who offered you 2G towards a new wing is hoping you don't know the value of the bike. Typically they go for 2500 to 3500 depending on the shape of the bike. Some get more with low mileage and such, and a mint bike is near 6 g to some people.
