REPLACE FOOTBOARDS WITH PEGS AND REPLACE FAIRING SPEAKERS

Postby rickgust » Mon Jun 13, 2011 5:28 pm

I have a quick couple questions... My Goldwing is pre owned and has footboards for rider and passenger... I would like to replace those back to pegs and find a toe shifter to put back on.. I think the brake pedal is still ok... looked around on the web with little or no success finding those.. and does anyone know of exploded views of the fairing or how to's on replacing the old speakers in the fairing..and where to get new ones or something that will fit without too much modifications...
Thank you for any assistance.

You'll likely have to find someone with footpegs who wants to put the foot boards on, and engineer a swap with them. Most heel-toe shifters for the 1100 just have a fork that actuates the original toe shifter, so you don't have to replace that - it's already there.

As for the speakers, just remove the front turn signals, and you'll find four wing nuts holding each speaker in place. Remove the wing nuts, and the speakers come right off.

Thank you so much for that info. I'll get at the speakers with your help... maybe I'm confused about the shifter though.. I know what your talking about when you say the heel-toe rocker shifter.. but right now, whoever put the boards on, seems like they put on an extented toe shifter... it comes to the middle of the boards and is very cumbersome to shift.. you have to put your foot way back on the board just to get your toe under the end of it... its just like a regular toe shifter, just seems way to long.. if the pegs were still there, I think it would be right on top of the peg... if that makes any sense. And you don't think those peg assemblies are available anywhere..?..

I have a spare, spare set of pegs. They are the rubber passenger pegs

Pegs are easy if you want to go after market J&P Cycles has alot that can fit (you will need an adapter) and this allows you to customize to your tastes.

Speakers as has been said take off front turn signals, each speaker is held in by four wing nuts (dont drop them there had to fish out) then just pull speaker off fairing. Speaker is removed from its housing by a screwdriver and I replaced my with a set of plastic covered foam 100w 4" Three way speakers.

Just FYI..keep the passenger boards most passengers like them..read women. When buying driver pegs be careful the ones for 1000's look the same but they are not..ride higher..lots on eBay usually $10.
HAD LOTS OF GOLDWING 75-83
NOW INTO 1500'S..RIDING A 1998 SE

FAIR WINDS,

Thank you everyone for all your useful information. I had decided to keep the boards for the passenger.. much more comfotable. I'll look and see what I can find for pegs on j&p and maybe ebay.. I'll try to heed the warning about riding higher.. I also want to get one of those long kicks for it.. hoping that might help it stand more steady and help from sinking in hot asphalt..
Thanks again. If anyone has any other great ideas, I'm always interested.

for hot asphalt, I keep a 4x4 1/4" piece of diamond plate in my saddle bag. Don't paint it black
