GL1100 Carb conversion

Postby tomanytoys » Tue Jun 14, 2011 12:23 pm

Hi all, Just as I was going to press the Buy It now on eBay to buy the last single carb manifold for my GL1100 Interstate I was beaten to the post.

So I had to come with an idea, So what do you guys think of this one.

Instead of scrapping the old carbs what about using the old carbs as manifolds and replacing air filter with a VW 34 pict carburettor.

All you have to do is remove the sliders and butterfly to give a open carb and replace the filter with a plate welded to the plate is the top half of a manifold from a twin port beetle.

This is a rough design but will improve the look later

why not get some tubing and make runners? They will flow better then gutted carbs.

I was using the old carbs to keep the original look.

Not sure about this but what it you did as said BUT/and slid a thin walled tube( PVC or metal) through the crab body to seal off all the extra spaces and ports. A runner inside the carb body. Get your carb look w/o all the extra issues of dead spaces.
HAD LOTS OF GOLDWING 75-83
NOW INTO 1500'S..RIDING A 1998 SE

How is this going to fit under the false tank ? or is it?

I personally would like to see a true fuel injection set up and eliminate the carbs all together.

I was thinking this to myself yesterday as well. That said, Honda tried fuel injection in a single model (GL1200 SEi) Goldwing, in a single year (1986) before abandoning it and going back to carburetors. I have to think there is a very good reason for this.

Someone on one of the other sites is doing just that. I don't remember if it is on NGW or the Steve Saunders site.
