MPG?

Postby N2PPN » Sat Jun 18, 2011 12:43 pm

Just curious what you folks with the GL1100's are getting for MPG.

I just filled up this morning (on the way to get bike inspected),and had to check the numbers twice, I got 64.6 MPG on my last tankful of highway (95%) driving at about 55 MPH average....

I wonder if this is a freak occurrence, or if maybe the gas pump was incorrectly measuring the gas I pumped..

I always use 87 Octane regular, and the last fill (before this morning) was at a local Sunoco station with 1.75 oz. of Stabil (green one, not the red one) added to fuel at every fill up.

My tires are at or near max inflation and I try to drive easy and not "hot dog" it.... is this MPG within reality??
Or did I make a math error??? (3.83 Gallons for 247.4 miles on trip odometer)

You are getting double what I am! But at 32-36mpg my bike is getting double of what my truck gets so I'm happy with that. Maybe you should hook the other two plug wires back up :).

64 MPG would be awesome,I average 45MPG running @ 60mph cant get over 50mpg without turning the key off or putting it in the back of a truck.
I would be very surprized if you can get those results again. keep us posted please

Id be very happy with 45 mpg, as Im inthe low 30's myself. Much better than my wifes minivan or about the same as my old Chevy Cav.

The best I get is 37 on the hyway at 60mph. My last '81 did the same mid 30's so how the heck are you getting 45mpg. I'm not hard on the throttle between lights and ease in to the throttle all the time. Proper air pressure in the tires don't ride double (I'm double size) so how are you guys getting that kind of milage?
If I had known I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself. NOT! I had to much fun getting here.

Can't tell you why 45 mpg or more ! But taking the Mileage divided by the number of gallons used tells the story doesn't It?

I took a trip today that was 115 miles each way. I keep the bike at about 68 mph all of the time. I got 37 going up and 39 coming back. This was on an '81 with just myself with a vetter fairing and luggage on the back that was empty. The bike ran great.

Most get 40 +/- 1 or 2..if the bike is running well and they keep it under 65.. 45 is good and below 38 is not good for 1100's. Above 45 someone is put gas in your tank when you are not around or you always ride with the wind at your back or downhill both ways???

did you mean 83??? Issues, dragging brake(s), too rich..what color are your plugs after a nice 50mph run, fuel leak?, low compression, bad plugs, bad coils, advance not working? How does she run..

How does the wife like that voyager kit on her 82.
Do you drive it ,and what do you like and don't like about the kit.

I'm thinking about installing one so my wife can ride again with me.
Thanks for your input....
My 1982 a only gets 35 MPG city and 39 in the country.
