1983 1100I with knock in idle and oil leak

Post by Dulok » Thu Jun 23, 2011 3:31 am

I'm thinking in purchasing a 1983 GL1100 Interstate for $800. I don't really have too much or hardly any experience with motorcycles. I currently own a '79 GL1000 up and running and in the works. My question is: is it worth buying the interstate or just continue to work on my '79?

Man,I'd be very worried about the "knock".If they trashed the crank,it's replace the whole engine time. The 1000 block won't plug and play into the 1100 frame very well.
The knock can also be mis-heard .It may be the primary chain slap due to carb problems(uneven firing). This is most noticeable in the 1000-1800 rpm range and quiets down right above that.Listen careful to the noise.Does it actually knock or sound like rattling.
