Speedo tied to fuel gauge??

Post by bcnv1100 » Thu Jun 23, 2011 2:25 pm

Anybody know if the wires going into the speedo are somehow tied to the fuel gauge?? Theres the cable coming from the tire, two lights then two other bundles of small wires. My speedo went out and i have one from JC Whitney that just has the screw on for the speed cable and then two small power wires red/black, not sure if it needs power to read the speed or if its just off the cable and gearing. I plugged in the speed cable and went down the block and back and got nothing. I'll have to make sure the speed cable is still spinning..

Nope, completely separate systems. The speedometer is entirely mechanical, it will function rolling the bike down a hill with the power shut off.

The power wires from your new speedo is most likely for the backlight, so you can see the gauge at night.
