Wet intake runners

Postby waldburger56 » Sat Jun 25, 2011 3:03 pm

Okay, I synched the carbs this morning, after about 45 minutes I have all 4 within 1 (one) inch of each other plus or minus 1/2 an inch (as displayed on analog guages. The engine drops from open throttle to idle somewhat faster now, but not as quickly as it should. I am noticing that the port screws that you remove to get the vacuum readings at, as well as the adapters screwed in in the place of the screws are wet with fuel..... Could this be a rich mixture, or worse stuck floats???? Polished the slides, they are butter smooth, and still running Berryman's in the fuel at a rate of 1 ounce per gallon of gasoline. Anyone have any ideas???

Run it out a while. If it's overloading with fuel,it will cause popping in the exhaust. That may be trimmed back with the idle adjustments.Yes,floats set too high can cause too much fuel delivery also.

Are you sure it's fuel? Remember, there's a lot of evaporation going on inside the carbs, which causes them to cool off quite a bit. If it's a humid day, and the bike is just sitting there instead of moving around, the outside of the carb runners can get wet with condensation simply because they are cold.

It is fuel, but it seems to be improving as I ride the bike. I am using seafoam in it as per instructed with every tank of fuel. I am pretty sure it was crud in the carbs now as it is idling as it should and return to idle from an open throttle position better.

After you run a couple of tanks, pull all 4 plugs.Their condition will tell about the condition of the fuel delivery and overall engine condition.
