Help Need to replace Headlight

Postby ram11397 » Sun Jun 26, 2011 10:43 pm

Hi
I have a 1982 GL1100 Aspencade and the Headlight housing is starting to flake off on the inside so the light is getting dimmer and dimmer. So is there a reasonable replace like a old car headlight and can it be changed to a sealed beam unit?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Rick

Yup. Believe it or not, an old VW bus headlight is a direct replacement:

I emailed them last summer and asked if you could buy just one, instead of the pair that they sell for $44. Here's what I got in reply:

Thank you for your inquiry. We can sell you one for $24.95. You can place an
order with me through email or call our Customer Service Department at
215-234-8989 and tell them that I said so.
If I can be of further assistance please don't hesitate to contact me.

OK. 83 Aspy. How in the H&LL do you remove the light to replace it? I can't figure it out, and don't want to break anything!! Thanks!

On the 82 the Headlight adjustment Knob behind the headlight in the fairing unscrew an pull off knob and headlight slides right out.

Look at the headlight adjustment knob on the back side of the fairing. Turn the knob until you see the set screw. Unscrew it carefully - don't unscrew it all the way, or it will fall out and be lost forevermore. Loosen it until you can pull the knob off. You'll see the shaft the knob was mounted to, and a nut holding it in place. Use a socket to remove the nut, and the washer underneath it. The headlight can now be pulled out of the fairing. Installation is the reverse.
