I bought my Goldwing in July 2009, as is. When checking the fluid levels I noticed the final drive was dry. I filled the unit but have noticed it runs very hot and is leaking fluid from the vent. Purchased a low mileage replacement final drive from a 1981 Goldwing. According to the exploded view and part number comparison the only difference in the actual final drive is the "gear set" (1983 414A3-MB9-000)(1981 41310-463-305). Can any one enlighten me on what I can expect will happen when I swap these out.

I guess I found the answer to my own question in the manual downloads, Goldwing specs. The gear ratio for 1981 is 3.091 and the gear ratio for 1983 is 3.10 so, it should be virtually undetectable.
