Head gasket blown?

Postby RetroEmiel » Thu Jun 30, 2011 1:42 pm

Hello,

Sorry for my bad english.
Today i start my bike, after a couple of minutes there was coming oil/anti freeze out of te breather coolant tube???
The antifreeze tank is full of a oil/antifreeze mixture
I think it's the head gasket ?
Wat is now the right way to start fix the problem.

Thanks

What kind of bike make model milage. It may be an intake gasket, as usually a head gasket showes white exhaust and bubles in the antifreeze tank, and over heats.

Is it needed to replace both headgaskets left and right? or just the one thats blown?

I know wich one is blown, the cylinder next to the feulpump.
When i pull the sparkplug i see wet "water/coolant" inside.

I would change just the one which is blown. I am not a big fan of opening an engine any more than necessary

the gearbox is also a bit rough... when i bought the bike i can't remember having a rough gearbox.

I have no experience in this gear issue you are haveing. Might be a good idea to start a new discussion thread as this one is titled blown head gasket. I do know on my 1800 and yamaha venture royal I will at times miss a shift and when I get back in gear it does make a bang. I have to be very delibrit and concious of the shifting, and try not to shift to fast. The noise may be caused by the engine and transmition not being at the same rpm to make the shift smooth when you have missed the shift. Try being slow and delibrite in you shifting

hi- this looks like it could be my favorite GL forum- bad spelling (lol), real people, not nose in the air perfectionists- my GL1200 IS bubbling up the radiator reservoir , and a bit of oil in the cooant, and using some coolant , empties the reservoir tank , and all plugs look good (tan with no heavy deposits) and it runs strong on all 4, i took the thermostat out the other day, saved the day,it suddenly went almost into the red but stopped short of the red (as i limped home) it now runs @ about 1/4 temp gauge, putting round town it gets half way up ,not good without a thermostat- it shouldnt be heating at all

If she is bubbling in the antifreeze and has some oil in it, and getting hot....Head gaskets is my bet
