REAR BRAKES BLEEDING/LEAKING ISSUE

Postby repsolracer22 » Fri Jul 01, 2011 9:32 am

83 goldwing interstate.

rear brakes dont work at all. i know its a linked system and its tied to the front right caliper. so obviously that's not working either. so ive got a working front left caliper and that's it. not good. bled system (by bleeding front caliper first), but brake fluid started leaking from that 'proportioning valve' thing. do those typically go bad and need replaced, or just re-sealed somehow? I checked with honda, and the part is only $35 but not available.

what next? anybody have this problem? can this be fixed somehow?

I have never been a big fan of linked brakes, I modified mine some time ago.

To answer your question I have not heard of that valve going bad, ever. unless it gets hit hard some how (such as a wreck). I am sure that someone has them aval if not new then used.

In the meantime run a single line from rear master cylinder to the rear brake and a single line from front master cylinder to one of the front brakes. This should get you back riding until you get new valve.

You might want to check that it's the valve leaking, and not one of the fittings/o-rings to the valve.
