Rear light bar bulbs...

Postby rirons0625 » Sun Jul 03, 2011 10:17 am

I purchased my 81 Interstate a few months ago, which had an aftermarket running light bar on the rear of the bike. Several of the small lights are burnt out, but I am having trouble locating them. Anyone with any ideas where I might find them? I've attached a picture of the light bar and the bulb i need. Thanks for your help!

Not a clue.Look at the name on the lens,it should indicate the manufacture and model. From that,Google it.I suspect it's Stanley.Get the lens number, that will help.Oh,by the way,if they are 4 watt bulbs, your adding a 40 watt load to the system(4x10 bulbs).Be mindful,It only has a 300 watt charging system at 5000 rpm and at least 120 watt is used just to run the bike stock. It doesn't leave much at 3000 rpm to charge the battery.

Would replacing all those lights with led's help with the load?

Some where in storage I have LED's that would fit the fixtures on that light bar, it's an LED insert board with wires. They have an entire fixture here, but they don't list bulbs http://www.jcwhitney.com/side-marker-li ... 14762o80j3

Actually, the bulbs are not behind the lenses you see on the bar but are by themselves between where the lenses are along with a few "spikes". The second picture shows the bulb which has a red plastic cap that is part of the bulb itself. Not sure, but it is maybe an e10 size?

The ones that are behind the lenses can be replaced with LEDs, as I did that on my bike. The other ones like you posted, it's hard to say what they are without measuring the thread itself. They will almost always have a number of some sort on the bulb somewhere - is it possible the red covers are on just snapped on top of regular bulbs?

The bar looks like one I got in the shed. The "reflectors" are a standard Stanley marker light with a bayonet style lamp in it.The lights you show, are add ons.Personally I'd replace them with LED's to keep the current demand low.

I have started to replace my bulbs with LED's,, here is the first set to change. ( I asked about these in another post but figured I would continue in this one :D ) My next pay check I will get the LED's for the light bar,, ( that is 20 bulbs lol ) then I will finish with the headlight,,,, Thanks again Wing for giving me that website,, they have every kind of LED replacement you could ever think of and at a great price, and if you can't find it, just take a pic, give a little description of it ( size: length, width, ect... ) and they replied back to me in less than 30 min with what I needed.

Not sure if you could, or would want to but a special thread or sticky with nothing but web links to all these great web shops might make it so people like me won't keep bugging you for them :D  ;)
