Rebuild Rear Brakes

Postby buzzer » Wed Jul 13, 2011 11:43 am

I have an '82 GL1100I. I have rebuilt the front brakes and I am now going to tackle the rear brakes. Does anyone know if the front pads and rear pads are interchangeable? I am finding alot of front brake pads online, but not many hits for rear pads.

They're not interchangeable. Have you had a look at partsnmore.com? They usually have a good selection.

Be forewarned regarding partsnmore with their rear brake calipre rebuild kit. I ordered it from them a couple of months ago and the piston seals in the kit were too small. I have an '83 gl1100. I understand that there is a size difference between the two model years. I hope that they get it right for yours.

Thanks for the quick reply WingAdmin. I actually found a decent price at my local Honda shop. Never would have thought that the case, but once I pay for shipping via an online purchase it actually works out to be about the same price.

I feel your pain bfvc702. I just did my front calipers with a set from them and all but one of the smaller rings fit. I had to snip out about an eighth of an inch and friction fit it in place. I am hoping as that is the secondary ring, it will not leak. I'm going to have to keep a very close eye on it. If it does, then I will have to rebuild that caliper again.

I appreciate all the help, this is a great resource for keeping these beasts alive.
