Best choice/source for replacement brake lines?

Postby rirons0625 » Thu Jul 14, 2011 1:02 pm

I've been struggling with getting a good firm pedal for the rear brake on my 81 Interstate. Rebuilt caliper, cleaned m/c, new pads installed, new fluid and bled well. Probably will rebuild the m/c but thinking my next move is to replace the original brake line. Just not sure if I should replace with another rubber line, braided, or perhaps stainless. I would welcome suggestions on type of line to use and where to order it from. Thanks for your help!

Without doubt, putting stainless brake lines on my 1100 was the single best improvement I have made to it. It makes a WORLD of difference in braking - it goes from squishy, indistinct, weak-feeling brakes to razor-sharp, powerful, distinct brakes. I put Vencowings brake lines on mine, and they are excellent - but also on the more costly end. You can find them for cheaper if you look around.

I put on stainless braided lines from HEL. What a world of difference, new lines front and rear. If I had more nerve I bet I could do a stoppie now. Worth every penny and I would highly recommend upgrading your lines, you will be amazed at how much shorter you can stop with a good brake system.
