rear wheel alignment

Postby thehorseman1955 » Fri Jul 15, 2011 8:48 pm

i just bought a 1982 gl1100 with 28000 miles(have all reciepts back to 84). the problem that i see is that the right side of rear fender is directly in line with right side of tire.the left side of fender is about 2" off to side of left side of tire. is this a swingarm problem? bent frame? or just one of those things? it seems to ride down road straight and has no sign of an accident.

I'd be more inclined to hope that the fender is tweaked, rather than the wheel being that far off.
You could center stand it and pull a string front to rear to look at the alignment. This drawing may help to understand.
You must lock the wheels so the string doesn't turn them.I just put mine in gear and wire tie the front one.

There are some washers and spacers that if they are not in the right places can throw the wheel off..people put them back on after a tire change incorrectly all the time. Check a parts diagram or manual for placement

HAD LOTS OF GOLDWING 75-83
NOW INTO 1500'S..RIDING A 1998 SE
