Looking at 1982 Aspencade

Postby oharaLTD » Thu Jul 21, 2011 9:46 pm

I'm going Saturday morning to look at a 1982 Aspencade. I recently gave up my 85 LTD for a cruiser and man I miss that wing. So I have got to get back on one or the wife may divorce me. The bike looks to be in good condition. I do not have a maintenance history. The guy that has it says that he is not at all comfortable on it. He says the bike is ready to ride and he does ride it to work regularly. I think the light bar will have to go. I like the streamline look myself. He did say that the coolant fan has been wired to a toggle switch. I have heard of several wing owners doing the same thing when a sensor fails. I will be trouble shooting it to put it back factory if I am lucky enough to bring her home. She has 80k miles on her. So what do you guys think about the mileage. I know it is hard to say with out knowing the maintenance history. But here's how I look at it, a bike with that many miles has been ridden at not setting up somewhere, and in order for it to be ridden, someone has got to be doing some maintenance on it. So any way, wish me luck here is a picture.

from the looks of the pic,it seems to be in good shapeand well looked after. Looks clean and shiney,so it was at least cared for and not left out to rust away. 80,000 miles is not that much for these bikes.with just regular maint. you should be able to get 250-300,000 miles out of that engine. If it runs and idles well, feels good going down the road you really cant go too far wrong with this bullet proof bike. check the timming belts and replace them if you dont know the history.a broken belt will destroy the engine as pistons WILL kiss valves.
Ride safe, Todd

She looks pretty nice from the Pic. 80 k isn't much for milage if the price is right and some peace of mind maintance (fluids timing belt) wife would be much happier and cheaper than divorce, The wife and I ride with a small group some of the guys ride cruisers, The wives don't look to comfortable after a while.

Well did you get the bike. I have the same bike and set up. How ever in order to get my wife back on, I have to install a wheel kit which I just ordered by Tow-Pac.I hope I did the right thing ? Here is your twin.
80k for Milage is nothing for these engines. :D

I brought her home last Saturday and have put about 300 miles on her. I really like this bike. A little TLC and some tweeks to my liking and she will be perfect. She rides so smooth, lots of top end.

You said you think you were going to remove the light bar????? can you get a pic up close of it,, if you want to sell it I may be interested, I have two on mine, an upper and a lower, but one of the lights is broken and does not work, something with the inside bulb housing and I am sure I might have issues with more later as time goes on, would be nice to be able to replace each when needed? let me know thanks
