Front brake lever

Postby emt613 » Fri Jul 22, 2011 6:28 pm

On my '83 Aspy, the brake lever has developed enough "play" that the brake light will not go off after you let up on the lever. The light switch is working properly, and my question is this. Could the piston on the master cylinder not be traveling far enough to push the lever against the switch? Is a rebuild of the master cylinder in order here? Thanks Everyone.........

You may just have a worn lever bushing. My 1500's front brake lever does the same thing and if I push it forward the brake lights go off.
The lever does have excess play in it.

Also the piston may not be returning all the way back to the retainer clip.Just a clean up may be all that's necessary.
