making a Pulse Generator cover gasket

Post by sperryunivac » Sat Jul 23, 2011 9:16 pm

It seems that there is a shortage of gaskets for the 1983 GL1100 pulse generator cover. My local Honda parts supplier says they are on back order until the end of August. I have not had any success searching the internet for a replacement. I guess I could get one if I buy the complete engine set. My gasket has broken up into five pieces so I have deceided to make one using the good old cereal box as it is the same thickness as the original one and is easy to make. Only took 15 minutes to build.
Has anyone else ventured into making your own gaskets using cereal boxes?

I have used a cereal box in the past when I was stuck. I prefer to use real gasket paper, you can get it in bulk at most auto parts stores. It comes in various thicknesses and different types of material too (paper or cork or?)
