Float Valve/Screens Question

Was wondering, if the float valve screen were plugged would it be feasible/reasonable to drain the float and then blow air through the drain opening to unplug the screen? I assume there would be some concern as to pressure since the screens are fragile. Also, when draining the floats to compare volumes, should there be enough gravity pressure to force gas through the fuel pump to keep a flow going out of the drain hole after the bowl volume has run out?

Appreciate any thoughts

No to both questions. You're going to have to pull the carbs if the screens are clogged.

Now, Please. Think about what you just asked! The screens are clogged with stuff coming down the fuel lines to the carbs, from wherever. Now you want to blow it back into the fuel lines! Even if you removed the line from the pump to the plenum you would still not blow everything out. And the bits that didn't come out? They go back to block the screens again!
The filters would not survive the pressure needed to do that either.

On your second question. Yes, fuel can flow through the pump depending on what position it stopped in when the engine was turned off. This is why there are questions constantly about hydraulic lockups. If any of your floats are sticky or badly set and allowing fuel to flood the cylinder, you run the risk of bending a rod. IT HAPPENS!
Always, always, always, turn off the petcock when you are stopped. That's what it's there for! :roll:
