About to buy a 1982 Aspencade

Postby outlawfox13 » Wed Aug 10, 2011 5:15 pm

Ok, well I am considering pulling the trigger on a 1982 Aspencade, it has 26,XXX miles. He says it can start, but is not firing on 2 cyl(the left 2) He is asking $900.00 but said he is flexible. He is saying it is in overall good condition. I am going to see it on Sunday, I currently own a 1994 CBR1000F Hurricane, and I am all too familiar in working on older bikes(81 GS750, 86 GPZ1000) I have done valve adjust to full carb rebuild to mounting and balancing tires. What are a few things to look at and is this a fair price. Any and all info would be nice. Thanks in advance Mike

Mostly likely a carb issue..to rebuild/clean carbs $200 if you do it yourself with a good kit. Check for leaks on the fuel pump small hole on the back side..stained??? check weep hole on the water pump..lower engine front..if drips oil or water..$120 if you change it out yourself. The 26,000 is more likely 126,000..if he hasn't changed the timing belts..another $50..Tires??? min. $300?? offer $500
HAD LOTS OF GOLDWING 75-83
NOW INTO 1500'S..RIDING A 1998 SE

FAIR WINDS,
RB

Ok, he is saying that the plugs are wet on the left 2 cyl, so im thinking electrical, he has the miles verrified by the dmv so the 26,XXX should be accurate. I will check those things when i look at it. Thanks for the tips Mike

you can't be 100% sure on that,, DMV goes by what is wrote down for example on mine, the title had 72,xxx but the odometer read 65,xxx when I bought it, so I gave the correct mileage and they never even questioned it. now the title I hold says 65,xxx .. I would bet that it really is 126,xxx .... hope I did not burst your bubble, regardless $900 is a good price.
