Fuel from exhaust

Postby jimyak » Tue Aug 16, 2011 3:20 am

I bought a GL1100I for $200 which has been in a shed for 9 years. I brought it home and started to play with it. I have changed the timing belts, hoses, filters, fluids, battery and plugs. I fired it up yesterday and it did sputter, spit and smoked like the garage was on fire. Which was to be expected. (I even had a few people stop and wanted to know if I was ok). But I noticed fuel coming out of the exhaust from a rusted out spot on the right side and from the carb overflow tube. I shut it down. I am guessing that I need to check the carb floats to see if one or more is sticking. I did clean the carbs but did not rebuild them. Tried to get away on the cheep and wanted to see if it bike would even run. Is there a way to check the floats while they are still on the bike?

Thanks, that is what I thought. I'm glad that the bike started and I can see the life coming back into it.

Im pretty sure that is your vacuum advance on your carbs and not an overflow.
