crashed 82 asp
well my 82 is nothin more than srap metal now. last fri night i was headed home ,all at once it pulled hard to the right,i tried to steer it back to the left but something was stopping it from doin what i wanted,im not sure if something broke,or got stuck between the forks and the fairing. it happened when i let off the throttle and as on any bike the front forks slide down a little from torque, the last thing i saw before impact was one of those cable type gaurd rails as i thought ,oh this is gonna hurt!
i hit th very beginning of it at 55 mph, broke off the first 2 posts at ground level, bent the next three over.the bike went end over end for about 125 ft, i flew atleast 150 ft ,after it all stopped i laid there a min till i realized i was still alive. i got up and walked towards my bike,by then someone stopped and told me to sit in the back of thair suv until paramedics arrived,as it turns out,i spent 1 day in the tauma unit,3 days in the hosp room, broken tail bone,2 fractured vertibea, other vertibea with small pieces broken off, fractured anke, fractured wrist, broken rib with fracured sternum(chest bone), serious contusion in left knee, so im ok,it coulda been alot worse.
first time i saw one of those cable gaurd rails, i thought to myself,i'd sure hate to hit that on a bike.
back home now, facing a long recovery but happy to be alive
i'll be ridin my vw trike by next season so i wont be needin anything from the wing, its an 82 asp, if anyone wants parts off of it im gonna sell em at a fair price, just send me a PM, all i ask is u pay shipping and give me a day or so to see if what you need is still any good. ill try to check back often as i can, thanks,,
i cant believe i made it thru this one, i geuss God aint done with me yet lol
God bless and ride safe out there folks
you can also call or text 417-414-3473, i preffer to use UPS for shipping

Sorry to hear about your accident but atleast you came out in one piece more or less. I would be interested in the rear shocks if they're ok.

Re: crashed 82 asp
What radio did you have? Does it still work? I might be interested! My bike just has the stock AM/FM. I hope your doing better!
Re: crashed 82 asp
Hello
I am sorry to hear about your crash. I had a mysterious crash back in june. I was going too hot in a corner and tried to brake. From what I've read, My 1980 interstate has an anti dive feature that is supposed to prevent the forks from compressing down to nothing. I think the anti dive failed and the bike just caved in. I was horrified by my absolute inability to make any correction. The bike made it through in good shape. After I healed I've been riding it again....but want to have it checked out. I live up in mid coast maine the bike shops are few and far between....and I don't know if anyone even knows what I am talking about. Looking for anyone who may know about the anti dive feature....I may start a separate post.
Glad you are doing ok
I'd be interested in the radio if you haven't already sold it

Re: crashed 82 asp
NO anti-dive on that year..the 83's had "anti-dive " but not really there either. The forks have air assisted damping that's about it. The further you go the stiffer it gets depending on how much oil, and air pressure you run..they stop/get stiffer sooner or later..on the down slide. Your oil could have been too low or your air gone.
