gl1100 rear tire

Postby wickedinaz » Fri Nov 11, 2011 6:18 pm

My 83 gl1100 of course came with a 140/90 16 which is rubbing the shaft and brake arm Found a gent locally that has new 140/80-16 for sale but never heard of the 80. Anyone know if this is okay for my bike, weight ratio and such? Don't know what the difference is between a 90 and 80

140-90-16 is the correct size according to my clymers manual, 140 is the width, 90 is the height, 16 is rim size..So would 80 be shorter then... I don't know what affect it would have on the bike...good luck and let us know...You should have at least a 1/4" clearance from the arm...Did you have 40 psi in the tire?

140/90 = 140 x 90% = 126 mm tall
140/80 = 140 x 80% = 112 mm tall
The 80 tire will fit on your bike but will alter the rear height some and could cause handling
changes. Both should be 140 mm wide.
