My 1983 Aspencade lives

Postby mysd455 » Tue Dec 13, 2011 3:13 pm

To recap, The grandson sells me for $700 dollars one owner 21k mile bike that has a "Shot engine" and looks like its been underwater it was so dirty. He also said "The frame must be rotted some were"....Well after what must be 40 hours of clearning and used $160 dollar E-bay cards, I kid your not, It looks so new if I had a window sticker on it and you didn't know newer bike designs it could pass for new, There isn't a pcs of rust anywhere. And with the used cards it runs as smooth as glass. I bet the 1st owner is looking down and smiling.

What a score! Really good looking. Don't forget: change the belts, change ALL the fluids, replace the tires (look at the date code on the tires) if they are over 7 years old.

Then - ride and ride some more :)

Thanks for the info. I didn't change the belts....and didn't even think to check the tire day code. For all I know there 20 years old or more

Heck, I will give you $900.00 for it right now and you won't have to do anything else to it. :)

Seriously, Very nice bike. Wish i could fall into a deal like that.

The kid was going to part it out. After his grandfather passed away. It sat from years in the garage as pops health got worse and worse. I found it on craigslist. What caught my eye was 1 owner and 21k miles, My thought was if it was only one owner all these years and only 21k miles it didn't add up that the person would keep it all those years, use it so few times then let it turn into a parts bike. Thats how the add's heading read" Goldwing parts bike for sale" And that price was delivered to my house. If you look you can find deals. I found a 1988 Mustang GT T-top, one of 250 with t-tops out of a total of 67,000 GTs made in 1988 It's 100 percent stock and looks ( Again with hours and hours of wet sanding) a solid 8.5 on a scale with 10 being like new for $1700 last year, I turned down $6500. All I did was clean it up. Its a keeper or at least till I get 10k LOl. I've been a "small time" car collector for years. I think the one to get now are the Alfas spiders from around model year 1986 for under 5k. BTW:.... And this is no BS, When I took the bike apart to clean it and make a list what was missing there were only two things I needed, the owners manual and the ignition switch/keys. About 40 hours of cleaning later, With the bike now looking outstanding I was bolting back the last item, the trunk, SO HELP ME GOD in the very trunk I opened to remove a month early was the Ignition lock, the owner manual and both keys. Imposible for me to have missed or not hear the Ignition switch banging around or miss seeing the manual. The trunk was and still is empty.
