Fairing mini toggle switch purpose???

Post by jab2of3 » Tue Jan 31, 2012 9:58 am

I bought a gl1100 last summer and installed the hondaline fairing. There is a small toggle switch on the left side of the fairing towards the windshield. Does anyone know what the purpose of it is???? It does not work but I am curious.

Just a guess, possibly some accessory the PO had installed it for. You can pull the left turn signal and look at / trace the wiring to be certain.
Some scientists claim that hydrogen, because it is so plentiful, is the basic building block of the universe. I dispute that. I say there is more stupidity than hydrogen, and that is the basic building block of the universe.

Could be that someone in the past installed a set of axuiliary driving lights and this was the switch for 'em. Like Pete said, pull the turn signal and trace the wiring.

I found one inside the false tank of the 82 I bought last year. Traced the wires to the solenoid and we (mechanic and me) figured it was either a secret "lock switch" (that didn't work) or that at one time someone had installed an electric reverse and removed it but not the wiring. It has since been removed.

As suggested, the Previous Owner probably added either spot lights or heated grips and that was the switch to turn the accessory on/off. You will need to follow any wiring connected to the switch to get a better idea of what it does/did..
