fule pump repair

Postby garfield76510 » Thu Feb 09, 2012 8:31 am

I am getting ready to attemp rebuilding my fue pump like virgilmobile did on my 12 goldwing and noticed where the fuel filter was behind it. I see a small band clamp with the screw on top. Is there an easy way to get this off so I can replace it at the same time :?:

Good luck on the repairs.I replaced all the hardened lines and clamps just to be sure.
Watch really careful around the switch.it operates by the plunger and too much rubber can reduce it's stroke and not cycle the switch.
I actually operated it ( no gas) with the rear cover off first so I knew how it worked then added the rubber dampener to it.

At the bottom of that band clip with the screw on top is a 10mm nut that can be reached from the right side with an extension on the rachet. This will release it from it's mount. Turn the gas off first and undo the fuel hose at the tank. Then undo the fuel hose at the fuel pump. Makes for a nice hand hold when undoing and remounting the filter. Get a filter from Honda or Napa Auto Parts. Don't use the Emgo.........Bad news. Napa Filter is Napa Gold 3011 and get a screw that is just a little longer and works like a champ. Stock screw makes it a little to tight for me.
Enjoy the ride. They are all good, just some better than others.

I believe the process is just like the like the 1100, so you can have a look at this:

I'll be replacing a clicking fuel pump with '85 prelude pump this week. Found on eBay for $41. + $10 shipping. You can get the napa or equivalent fuel filter, but I recommend the $10 more expensive OEM filter and there's no question about flow & bracket fitting. As far as the little 5 mm nut that secures the bracket, if you hold your mouth just right, you can work your left hand in there w/ nut in fingers to start threads. Just make new hoses are correct length , bracket turned right way & new screw type clamps. I've also found that at least the '85's back are 1/4" lines, but my '87 has 3/8" lines
