Plastic repair and paint

Postby jskeys » Wed Feb 29, 2012 12:55 pm

Having reviewed posts on ABS repair from the forum, I now have an idea what I need to do to fix the 2 bad areas on my wing. One is a piece broken off the lip of the trunk lid abt 3 inches long and an in wide. The other is on the lower left faring about 3 inches by 2 inches. I will go out and look for the materials (ABS pipe and cement) today. I have looked for touch-up paint to finish the job (when I get there) but have been unable to find it. My wing is "Premium Beige Metallic" code YR-123M-U. Has anyone tried to match this any where? Open to any suggestion on this task as I have never done body work before. Thanks to all.

My experience with the ABS repairs is time to let it cure for strength. On those big pieces you need to make some kind of jig to hold them in place while they set up. Also a very light fiberglass mat layer on the back side of each piece and saturated with ABS will help give it strength. If you are building up any areas, do it slowly and allow it to dry or cure before the next layer. Honda's paint system is very hard to match and work with. Myself I would keep an eye open for used parts from the same color code and year. The areas I have fixed were out of sight and one I painted with Semi Gloss engine paint. Good luck on your project.
Enjoy the ride. They are all good, just some better than others.
