Radio

Can I install any radio bought from the store? Or does it have to be waterproof. We hardly get any rain living in the desert. What about a bike cover, think that will do?

It depends. Do you plan on riding in the rain?

I have a regular automotive "TomTom" GPS mounted on my bike, as well as an XM Radio. Neither are waterproof. I have ridden in the rain with no problem, because the wind blows the rain AROUND the fairing, and keeps them (and me) dry. You do have to keep moving, though.

I don't let my bike sit in the rain.

If you're worried about it, you can buy "marine" radios that are waterproof, and install one of those instead.

I have installed a regular car redio on my bike. I made a cover from glassfibre.
As a hinge for the cover I use an inner tube for a bicycle glued the full lenght of the cover to the dash, so I have a moveable cover with a watertight hinge. Simple and effective.
Feel free to use my idea it's not patented. :D

I have an 84 gl1200 Interstate, that has the mount bezel with the aftermarket panasonic radio/cassette player with the hinged door over it.

I want to be able to hook up my mp3 via aux port. What car stereo did you use that fit in the hole? the panasonic one that is in there is really small.
