Repairing speedo cable

Postby rcgreg » Sun Mar 11, 2012 7:21 pm

During some repairs on my 84 Interstate, I stomped all over the end of the speedo cable and broke the part that the screw that holds the cable into the speed sensor on the front forks screws into. Has anyone repaired theirs? If so - How?

Thanks Folks
I'm also ready for the road with new valve guides, gaskets, water pump, carb synch, and timing belts.

The old gal shall ride again !

By the description it may look,or did look like this one.And now the retainer is gone.

Other than buying a whole new cable, the only idea I can come up with is to fabricate a tong that can be attached with the screw that would secure it in place.

I had the same idea, there is a portion of the tong left, so I think I'll construct a part out of brass tube to encapsulate the part of the tong that's left, with a hole for the screw.

Thanks everyone - I'll let you know how it goes.
