Diffrerent Handlebars

Postby SAILOR » Mon Mar 12, 2012 12:11 am

I'm now the proad owner of two 1984 Goldwings. One Apsencade with 150,000+ miles and and one Interstate with 24,000 miles. Now that I'm comparing the two bikes the Interstate has handlebars that are more turned, meaning shorter distance between the ends of the grips. The Aspencade are more bent out with a wider distance between ends of handle bars. Did the Interstates and Aspencades come with different handle bars? Would someone measure the distance from the middle of the end of the left bar to the middle of the end of the right bar on there Aspencade, or Interstate and tell me how wide yours are? Also how hard is it to take off the handle bars and swap?

I know that they are some differences between models.I suspect it was designed for optimum control for that machine.
Swapping concerns would be the length of cable and wires to reach the controls may be
different.Otherwise,it's just 4 bolts at the triple tree.

I think the handlebars have the same length from the triple tree to the ends, so the cables are proably about the same length, but this is something to check. Doesn any one know how hard is it to remove the throttle from the end of the handlebar?

Three bolts hold the entire clamshell assembly pinched on the bar with a dimple to keep it from rotating. The throttle grip and switch assembly all come off as one unit. The brake lever is a separate unit with 2 bolts. The left grip is secured to the bar,the throttle is secured to a nylon sleeve that rotates on the bar.

I always thought they had the same handlebars. I live and learn. ;)

I've swapped out the handlebars and I like the fit much better.
