brake fluid

have a 85 goldwing and wanted to know if you can use dot 4 synthetic brake fluid made by prestone in the clutch and brake system.

Yes. Dot 3 and 4 can be mixed with each other. Only difference is Dot 4 has a higher boiling point than Dot 3.

I would just bleed them until the new fluid comes out. It's always best to flush the entire system on a fluid exchange. Mityvac brake bleeder is the best way to do it. I believe HF still has it on sale.

To add more clarification, synthetic brake fluid can be mixed with conventional brake fluid. Dot3 and Dot4 fluids can be mixed. Silicone brake fluid (DOT5) CANNOT be mixed with Dot 3 or 4. :ugeek:
