joined and have been watching this site since getting my Goldwing 2 years ago. So much great info haven't needed to ask anything yet.
bike was garaged before buying and has been since buying, finally ready to get it up and roadworthy.
first registered in 86 but after reading many posts believe its an 85
photo/avatar pictured.
rear top box says Aspencade SE-i, LIMITED EDITION
engine has CFI on covers.

blows a bit of smoke on starting otherwise mechanically great
60,000 miles on clock, ( about 100,000 kilometers in my language )
has a few electrical problems, more luxury items than running problems

will change timing belts, history unknown, thanks to all that have asked many related questions prior, I've read as many as I've found.

Just need to know excatly what bike/model I have
any help apprieciated

thanks
Frank

All of that info should be readily available on your title or from the PO's old registration. If you have neither available look on the left side of the bike ( sitting on the seat )
Should be an identifying plate on your steering head, giving year of manufacture, serial number and model and year available for first sale. Post that info here if you still have issues figuring it out

The SE-i was only produced as a 1986 model year.

The LTD was produce in 1985, and was the first GL1200 with fuel injection. In 1986 the LTD was replaced by the SE-i, which also had fuel injection. Those were the only two model years of Goldwing to have fuel injection until the GL1800 came along.

The 1986 SE-i came only in pearl white.

If your bike says both "SE-i" AND "Limited Edition", and it's not white, then I'd be suspicious, because there is no such bike.

If you post your VIN, we can tell for sure what the year is.

Thanks for your help
link supplied by dingdong confirms its a 85 limited edition, Gold colour
guessing PO must have put Aspencade SE-i reflector strip on top box

have included vin and engine no. if you could confirm, thanks

vin 1HFSC1467FA118060

engine SC14E2521207

now that I know its not an Aspencade, is this bike simply known as a LIMITED EDTION or LTD or
does it have some other name

thanks
Frank

If you are having electrical issues I would take care of some areas. Check the stator connector plug. It's the white one left of the battery and solder the wires to eliminate the plug.(if it hasn't already been done) There's a good tech article on it. Replace the dogbone fuse with a newer type plug.(another tech article on this too) Then I would think about a Poorboy alternator conversion if not already done. With all those electrical goodies installed you're overtaxing the stock charging system.

Here's photo's of the pair, on the light it should say 'Goldwing' not Aspencade SEi
The 1985 GL1200 Limited.

The 1986 GL1200 Aspencade SEi.

Here's the cover that fits your bike, it says CFI Computerized Fuel Injection.
