top end preformance

85 Aspencade runs well except when in OD say 60 mph go to throttle up very poor reaction slow to accelerate and a shuttering senation, lower the rpms shutter goes away. I think that the gear does not matter hard acceleration and I get the shutter.
any advice ?

A shuttering sensation under heavy load is usually associated with fuel mixture problem,or starved for air.
Did this always do this?

My 84 had a starvation problem between 2200-3200 rpm.I verified it was fuel starved(lean fuel) by adding about 1/3 choke (fuel enriching) as I accelerated in that range.
As soon as it started to stutter,I added the choke and it smoothed out.

This indicated I had a fuel mixture problem.I cured it by adjusting the main needle height,idle screw turned out another turn and a really good carb clean.

I have seen the rubber diaphragm split on the carb slides causing this problem also.This would cause a starvation for air,in which,adding the choke would make it worse.
With a hole in the diaphragm,the slide would not open to allow more air and fuel into the engine.
