Intake tube bolt torque specs

Postby harkgold » Fri Mar 23, 2012 10:54 pm

Can someone tell me what the torque spec is for the intake tube bolts on the carburators for my 84 GL-1200 Interstate? For the life of me I cannot find the specs for this anywhere in my shop manuals.
Thanks,
Harkgold :?:

I checked my 84 Honda service manual and I couldn't find the intake bolt torques either. But I did find some standard torque values that should help you.

5mm bolt/nut 4 ft-lb
6mm bolt/nut 7 ft-lb
8mm bolt/nut 16 ft-lb
10mm bolt/nut 25 ft-lb
12mm bolt/nut 40 ft-lb

5mm screw 3 ft-lb
6mm screw 7 ft-lb
6mm flange bolt/nut 9 ft-lb
8mm flange bolt/nut 20 ft-lb
10mm flange bolt/nut 30 ft-lb

Thanks Seabee! I saw this in my manual as well, but I'm not sure which of these is the bolt on my intake tubes. I do know the intake bolts have a 10mm head but the threaded part of the bolt is much smaller in diameter. Do I torque these based on the head size of the bolt or the size of the threaded bolt.
Thanks again!

The size of the bolt is measured by the diameter of the shank, or threaded part. The head size will vary from bolt to bolt. Sorry I didn't clarify that earlier. I looked thru my parts manual and it shows the flange bolt size as 6 x 25, meaning 6mm(diameter) x 25mm(length). So that means you will torque the bolt 9 ft-lb.
PM me your email if you'd like a pdf parts manual.
