Aspy shutting off

Postby buffdaddy55 » Sat Mar 24, 2012 7:31 am

I know there may be several topics covering this already, but has anyone experienced their 85 Aspy just shutting off for no apparent reason? Going down the road @ 60 MPH , the bike just shuts down and has some really loud backfiring. Once I coast to stop and sit there for a couple of minutes, it starts right up and away I go again. The backfiring is what really has me puzzled. HELP please!

Pulse generators the likely culprit

Do you know how to check the pulse generators and where they are located? (please forgive my ignorance) Well, I'm not ignorant, just informationally challenged!

Look in the manual for the resistance.you will need to measure them when it's cold for a reference and quickly when it quits to determine which one is going thermal.I believe that some bikes use only 2 and others have a third one by the timing belts.I refer to it as a crank angle sensor.I think that one is used in the fuel injected bikes.

After '84: Remove the top compartment
Measure resistance: Whitelyellow and yellow leads (1 -2 cylinders), White/blue and blue leads (3-4 cylinders).
Resistance at 20" C (68" F) After '84: 330 +- 33 Ohms

I had a similar problem although mine would sometimes run all day then quit.
Could never get it to read the wrong resistance, although after changing everything else I could think of I bit the bullet and changed the PG's that was the problem

Sometimes if you hit the pg's with a heat gun you may get them to open.
