Windshield Vent

Postby Mooseman » Fri Jan 22, 2010 11:29 pm

I am thinking about installing a vent in the windshield of my 86. Not so much for air flow on a warm day but to try and negate the low pressure behind the windshield. So has anyone installed the vented windshield or after market vent? Do you notice any difference between open and closed?
I had the same problem on my 85. The wind goes over the windshield, by me and then flows back towards the windshield pushing on the back of my helmet. Needless to say on long rides the back of my neck gets real sore from the constant pushing my head back. Being 6-4 doesn't help either. How about the tall windshield?
Thanks for the help, Mooseman

Enjoy the ride. They are all good, just some better than others.

One of our members here did just that on her 1100, and she wrote about it in this thread.

OK, I got my vent installed. Results, positive. First it relieved some of the pressure coming from behind my helmet, not pushing my head forward so much. It also helped with buffeting and believe it or not wind noise.
I purchased the vent from the prior post link. The directions say to make the bottom center holes 16 ¾” from the top of the windshield on a GL1200. Well I went with 15” and that was perfect. Clears the top of the instrument shade by about 1”. I did have to remove the wind screen for cutting and mounting. No cracks , splits or errors. Glad I did it. :D
Any questions give me a shout. I took a few pictures.

OK Mooseman-You said you took a couple of Pics-so lets see them. I'm getting ready to install a vent on my Aspey and would be interested in what it looks like!

Thanks
