gasket maker

Postby sparkyman » Mon Apr 23, 2012 6:01 pm

Hello everyone just wanted some feedback I just bought a water pump seal kit and the large gaskt was torn in shipment.I was wondering if I could use a little gasket maker like permatex to repair the tear or is this not a good idea.

Don't tell anyone but I did that.I used just a little on both sides and made sure that the torn part was touching. There isn't any pressure there so it was a non issue. That was a few years ago.Remember, just a little, don't gob it on.And don't use Permatex around where the new gas can get to it,it turns it into a gooey mess.Use permatex #2,let it get tacky before you clamp it together.

Taxing the very fibers of my mental capacity here....
As I recall,remove the cover,Remove the 6 bolts.

****IMPORTANT**** loosen them just a bit at a time all the way around. There is a lot of spring pressure there. If you just take them all the way out one at a time the plate will bind and possibly break.Sequence them.maybe 2 turns each, criss cross pattern.Get the plate off evenly.
Then just gut it out. R & R the plates and reverse the tightening method. You know even steven
