GL1100 vs GL1200

Postby klaus756 » Wed Apr 25, 2012 11:05 pm

Hello all. Can you give me a performance comparison between the GL1100 and the GL1200? Is there a real difference in the 100cc? Thanks for the input.

Well I certainly cannot "prove" these stats : so much depends on tires, road surface, ability of the driver, and frame weight / gearing/ change points ....
But I did copy them from the internet somewhere , about 2 years ago :

-----------------------------------------------

GoldWing 1/4 mile times ( seconds )

1975 GL 1000 12.95

1980 GL 1100 standard 13.18

1986 GL 1200 interstate 12.67

1985 GL 1200 LTD 12.88

1988 GL 1500 13.06

2001 GL 1800 12.87

2004 GL 1800 12.71

With something like these, I take everything with a " Grain of Salt"

----------------------------------------------------
LOL
LOL
however I should point out I do own, and drive an GL 1200

thanks for the info. I have been trying to decide which engine to use in my project bike. I have both, but my 1200 is an '86, and I am finding out it will be very involved to use it in place of the 1100 because of the added differences of a different ignition/control and ECU's.

The 1100 is a fine motor and if it's easier go for it. I don't think you'll be able to tell much difference in performance. The only problem I've had with 1100 was carbs gumming up/ float sticking from sitting too long while I rode my 1200A. This can happen to any older Nike though. Also the bigger & heavier the motor the more hp needed for same performance.

Thanks for the reply Gary. I was thinking , if the performance was worth the difference, I'd go with the 1200, but only because I have it. Cheers. Dave.

on my 1100 the rpms are high ,,like 4000 at 70 and the 1200 must have more low torque as they cruise at lower rpms...redline on the 1100 are much higher also...
