antenna mount caps

Postby Johnhs » Wed May 02, 2012 4:05 pm

I don't use the cb or the am/fm radio on my 1984 GL1200i, so I want to unscrew the antennas and screw a cap on the mounting points to protect them until I decide to use one or the other. Does anyone know of such a thing? :?:
Thanks,
John

I'm not sure they actually come apart that way. I know when I replaced my 1100's antenna, it came as one piece, pre-assembled. If you do cap off your antennas this way, make sure you don't attempt to transmit on your CB this way...it can do damage to the transmitter inside the CB if there isn't a proper antenna load on it.

Thanks WingAdmin. Yes, mine unscrewed and the antenna came off complete with the decorative base part that covers the antenna base. I won't be using the cb accidentally because I don't use the cb. It's safely under a locked cover. For me, riding is engine/road/wind noise (with ear plugs).

I take mine off when putting the machine to bed for the winter ... enables me to easily cover the whole machine , in a garage .
I wanted to protect those screw threads ... and the cover too... as they are sharp !
I found some nice chrome acorn nuts that fitted the threads :

but secondly : do not turn on an un-attenaded CB... the unbalanced load will burn out part of the CB amp
