Postby damessor92 » Sun May 06, 2012 11:27 pm

What is the mileage on the bike? A bike that is flawless with really low mileage will fetch a very good price. If, of course, you can not get it running because of it sitting so long, then it is another story....

Welcome to Goldwingdocs, we can see if we can help. I have a 1988 and finding it is getting to make me have deep pockets, but a bike that can get 150k miles is a wonderful thing.

im not sure on the miles as ive only seen it with the cover off twice before but as i have quite a few mechanical skills im sure itll run one day im guessing that the miles are very low he only used it for leisure riding sumtimes so they say the average is like 41000 for that year so ill make a safe guess of thirty thousand

I also have a 88.So far I've invested $150 in parts and a lot of labor to tweak it back to a great bike.
The carbs took most of the time.

Would help if you had some pictures and more info. Check around and see what they are selling for elsewhere. Really hard to put a price on something unseen. Besides grandpa should just give it to you.

My 88 cost me $2500 with a dealer estimate of $2000 to repair the brakes and do the maintenance.
The bike is a 9 out of 10 in condition, new battery and tires.Just no brakes and needed the timing belts.A few minor electrical problems but it came with intercoms in the helmets.
There asking price was $4500.They took off the $2000 for a "as is" sale.
Gl1500's around here go for $4000-$6900 all day in good condition.

Also....If I were looking at the bike for me,I'd be repairing it myself,so I could guess ,with the new tires, carb repair, belts, brakes, etc, etc.I would offer no more than $2500-$3000 for it.There's a lot of work to do to bring it back to a reliable bike.
It took me 4 months of spare time to get mine road worthy and I'm still fixing electrical problems.
I guess that's why the Dealer wanted $2000 up front to work on it.

The first drawback about the bike is: It's been sitting for 7 years, that by itself is going to bring the price down quite a bit. It's going to take some work to get it road worthy again. My bike is a 98 Aspencade, I paid 5000.00 for it, it is in perfect condition as has all the add ons that the SE has except the two tone paint.

A good running 1500 should sale between 3000.00 and 6000.00 depending on the year and mileage and of course condition.

Yeah that changes it a lot. The 1200 was made from I think 83 to 87 Then the 1500 came out. sO THE BEST ON THE YEAR IS 10 YEARS OLDER . The model makes a big difference also. Aspencad or Interstate also had the Naked wings those years. Aspencades have mucho more guddeez on them , but also many more electronics to go south .

Well it's still a wing.I've got one too.A 84 interstate.Carbs are about the easiest to fix of all the bikes and the timing belts are NAPA cheap.
I paid $1000 for mine with a missing mirror,no radio, needing the carbs going through and belts and tires.
I value the bike at $2000 now.

Here in California the 1200's for sale on Craigslist are asking between $2,000 and $3,500 depending on model, mileage, and condition - but this is for ready to ride. There is a listing in the LA area for a naked 84, non-rider, parked since 2010, for $1,500. Needs starter and throttle cable, 54 K miles.

This link is to an 85 Aspencade in Seattle. Non-runner also, 163 K miles for $1,000.

Hope this helps you figure a price.

Yes it is still a wing. I also have a 76 1000 . Haven't rode it foer a couple of years. Has a suicide shift and is a bobber with a wixon brothers faring. I like em all , long as they don't vibrate your teeth out.
