MINOR NOISE IN ENGINE

Postby BOSNBOB » Tue May 29, 2012 4:34 pm

I OWN AN 86 1200 SEI WITH 82000 MILES. I BOUGHT IT TWO WEEKS AGO SO TODAY IS THE FIRST DAY ON THE ROAD. IT IS MISSING OUT AT LOW IDLE AND i HEAR SOME MINOR ENGINE NOISE. I HAVE NEVER OWNED A MOTORCYCLE WITH THIS MANY MILES IS THIS NORMAL OR DO I NEED TO CHECK SOMETHING WITH THE NOISE.

82,000 miles is just getting going. These bikes can easily go 200,000 miles and more with no engine work required. What kind of noise are you hearing?

I'AM HEARING A CLATTERING UP TOWARDS THE FRONT. ALSO ITS MISSING OUT AT LOW IDLE. ITS BOUNCES 820 RPM TO 1200 RPMS. I PUT NEW PLUGS IN A COUPLE DAYS AGO AND THEN LAST NIGHT i PUT SOME SEA FOAM IN THE TANK AND IN THE CRANK CASE.

The noise up front should be checked first.Listen at the lower radiator hose for a loose bearing in the water pump or remove the cover and try to wiggle the impeller.Other noises can be timing belt tensioner pulley bearings.
Missing is usually fuel or vacuum line related.See how the Sea Foam works first.
