GL1200 Tires

Post by Akron331pres » Sun Jun 03, 2012 9:35 pm

I just purchased a 1985 GL1200LTD, and I need new tires. Any suggestions on what brand and type (radial or bias) of tires to use?

Well I'll always recommend the Avon Venoms (I'm pretty sure they make them for 1200's - either that or the Cobras), as I've had them on two bikes now and absolutely love them.

Might try the Michelin COmmander II. Just put one on rear of my '85 Aspy and made a world of difference. Also, saved some money over the Elite III.

I like the Pirelli Myself. ... cycle-Tire ... cycle-Tire

Plus these are great people to deal with. Them or Rocky Mountain ATV.
Enjoy the ride. They are all good, just some better than others.

Dunlop Elite 3 ....just replaced my front....couldn't believe the difference. On the other hand, any new tire feels great after riding bald for a while.
Dunlop Elite 3 is the model after Elite 2 wich I believe was the stock factory supplied tire for the 1200.

You still get Dunlops elite 2 from Dennis Kirk I just bought one for the rear that is just in case you want to go back with the raised white letters like what came on it when it was new.
