It could be a bad wire going to the speed sensor on the front wheel or a bad speed sensor. Have you done any work on the bike lately or did it just stop working?
Do you have a service manual for the bike yet?

It's on the left side of the front wheel.

Here's a diagram of the location:

The speed sensor assembly is labeled '1'

I just found this site, and have a speedo problem on my sons 86 Aspencade.
I just finished reading the howto test the sensor.
In the case that the sensor could be bad, and Honda no longer makes them,,,
Does any one have the actual schematic of the sensor itself or know of someone that rebuilds the circuit board?
I hope this is not a problem posting this question here... If so I apologize up front.
Thanks either way

As far as the schematic, not sure if there is one out there. Have you checked ebay for the sensor? I have seen them posted there every now and then. A lot of times the circuit boards are ok, the gears inside the sensors tend to go bad because they are made of plastic. You can also search the for sale sections on the different forum boards for members selling parts.
