TURN SIGNAL SWITCH QUESTION

Postby harkgold » Sun Jun 17, 2012 6:55 pm

Still working the final bugs out of my "84 GL1200 Interstate and I'm wondering if there is a separate flasher relay for the turn signals and the hazard switch.
I found a flasher relay that works when I switch on the hazard lights but I do not get any flashing when I activate the left or right turn switch.
I have checked and confirmed continuity at the turn signal switch according to the shop manual, but when I activate the switch for a left or right turn I can hear a very faint intermittent clicking noise somewhere in the area of the flasher relay that clicks nice and loud when the hazard lights are activated but I can't seem to locate the source of this faint intermittent sparodic click. If there is a separate flasher relay for the turn signals can someone direct me to its location?

Also, my manual refers to a cancel switch. Where is this switch and how do I identify it? Also, if this cancel switch that I am looking for is defective, will that stop the turn signals from working all together?

Thanks for your help!

There is a separate flasher for the turn signal.Mine are in front of the fuse box.One on each side.
The cancel part....On some, you push in on the turn signal switch to cancle,on others, you manually push it back to center.
Each one uses a auto canceler system to switch the turn signal off.
One is fully electronic the other pulls in a solenoid in the bottom of the switch assembly and lets the spring return the switch to the off position.

Do your two flashers look identical to each other?
I found the flasher relay for the hazard lights. It is the rectangular shaped box on the lower left corner of the fuse box. On the lower right corner of the fuse box there is a larger tubular shaped object with an electrical connector coming out of it and I can't tell what it is.

Same as mine.you can test probe the wires and operate the flasher to confirm it.
