fuel problem gl1200 (starving ? )

Postby mick » Wed Jun 20, 2012 9:43 am

i have a 1987 goldwing gl1200 aspencade USA spec

if i stay on local roads and keep the speed between 60 to 70 mph the bike runs great

if i go onto the motorway (freeway) and try to travel at 70 to 80 mph the bike seems to run out of fuel.

I keep going but cant get above 30 to 40 mph once i get chance to stop and wait for a few seconds the bikes reving and running great again
i have a new honda fuel filter and somebody in the past has fitted a honda car fuel pump

any ideas ?

One thing to try is open your gas cap when you run over 70 mph and see if that makes a difference. If the fuel cap vent is clogged it creates a vacuum in the tank preventing proper fuel flow. Another thing to check is the fuel pump output. Others will offer more suggestions to check.
