GPS SUCTION CUP MOUNT ON WIND SHIELD

Postby wrightwing » Fri Jun 22, 2012 3:52 pm

Hasn't anyone ever tried sticking the suction cup mount on the inside of there wind shield ? With all the different mounts I'v seen , it's a short look down in the direction your headed , ( hopefully ) and it's not moving around , like on your handlebars , or where ever else ! I did , right above the gauges , well below line of sight , nice angle . Stuck well . It even looks like it belongs there  Opinions Welcome !

I did that with my Tom Tom.stayed there for almost 1/2 hour.heat expanded in the seal and it fell off.I had to use a piece of wire to keep it from dropping to the ground.

Yup, me too. I've tried quite a few different "suction cup" mounting schemes, including using the little adhesive disc that TomTom supplies. None of them lasted more than an hour or so before they fell off. I think GPS suction cup mounts meant for cars just aren't up to the task of handling the bumps and vibration they are subjected to on a motorcycle.

Yeah , good to know . I should have known it wouldn't be that simple . Thanks guy's ! Here's an idea . Pop-rivet the mount to the top of the dash . Water proof rivet's with a silicone .

Yeah , I'm thinking the same thing . I think it would stick there for 4 to 6 hours , and check it every once in a while . If nothing else I'll tie a rope to it in case it falls off    Thanks brandonb 8-)

you know with all the smart phones out there who needs a designated GPS. i put velcro on the right compartment lid and applied the other half to the back of my droid phone cover. i use the headphone jack to plug into my stereo auxillary input. it is right under the phone charger i installed. I can use the GPS, listen to Pandora Radio, charge my phone battery, and receive hands free phone calls through the stereo. the velcro is great. i never forget my cell phone at home because i use it for all of these things at one time. if i start my bike and there are no tunes i know i am forgetting it. lol. gotta love modern technology.

i have one of the mounts that come with the vent clamp/suction cup/ and a screw on type mounting plate. I was thinking that I could mount the screw on plate to the top of the false tank lid and silicone the screw holes before and after i bolt it down then the mount can just lock in and i could use two black cloth covered hair ties to help keep the phone in its holder while driving. though it doesnt make it water proof. I did fint a waterproof handlebar mount that fits all smart phones and is lockable with a small pad lock
