The regulator is in the alternator itself. No other regulator is needed. I suggest having a self exciting regulator intalled in the alternator you use for the conversion. Any alternator or starter repair shop can do it easily and cost is about 20 bucks. Self exciting eliminates the need for any wires to the ignition to arm and turn off the alternator. It simply arms itself when it starts spinning and disconnects when it stops.
